Winter 2023-24 has brought record rainfall to much of the UK. East Anglia experienced 3x the average rainfall for February. December and January had been very wet too. The fields around where I live became very waterlogged. Young winter crops were ruined. Tractors left huge deep furrows that became flooded. These areas frozen over at times. Deeper areas of clay-heavy soil were exposed in places, leading to rather colourful furrows in places. I started to document these flooded areas, concentrating particularly on the deep tractor tracks. I used a mixture of medium format B&W film, colour digital and infrared digital to record what I saw. I mainly used film and these shots were part of a learning process as shooting film is in some ways very different to modern digital SLRs. A lot of my images aren’t ‘fit to be seen’! This remains an ongoing project that I’ll add to in the future. Presented here are a few images from this last winter.
